Local 384 Nominations This Sunday

All Local 384 members should be concerned with what happens at the Union Hall on Sunday, September 23, 2007. That’s when the candidates for Local Union office will be nominated for the upcoming election this October.

There will be more news here after the nominations are made.

Stand United with Local 384 Member Pete Schultz

We are union members, and the proudest part of that tradition is that we stand together. Our strength is in our unity, our solidarity. Our collective strength is there so that even the weakest and most downtrodden can be strong.

Right now, there is a member of our local union who needs our strength. (The following is from a flier advertising the upcoming 50/50 drawing to benefit Pete Schultz – please help if you can):

Last month, Pete Schultz was stricken by
something that has affected his eyesight. At this
time, the doctors have no idea what is causing
this problem, and have been unable to resolve
this issue. This situation leaves Pete with
children in H.S., and no income at this time.

Happy Thanksgiving

Be thankful, and remember the reasons why every day, not just this one.

Be thankful for a union job that allows you to enjoy time with your family, whether on holidays like this one, on the weekends or on the vacation time you get through the power of collectively bargained contracts.

Be thankful for a living wage, something millions of Americans still don’t get paid.

Be thankful
for what remains of U.S. labor laws that protect our rights (and for the possibility that a new Democratic majority in Congress may actually enhance the rights of working folks, unlike the last Congress)

Be thankful that for living in a democratic republic where we can fix the remaining branch of our government in another two years.

Be thankful for family, friends, union brothers and sisters and every bit of health and happiness we have in life.

Be thankful for solidarity.

And if you already know your reasons to be happy this year, consider sharing the wealth with others, whether by spending time with the people in your life or donating to worthwhile causes (with money, time or both).

Happy Thanksgiving!
