Sample Grievance Language for Appealing Discipline (UPS, Philadelphia Supplement)
Print this page
Below is some standard language for appealing discipline at UPS (specifically written for members subject to the Philadelphia Supplement of the 2008 contract).
If you have been informed you will be receiving a warning notice, suspension or discharge from your supervisor or manager, you can copy the following onto a grievance form so that a steward or business agent can file it on your behalf. Read below the grievance language for more instruction.
“On [Date], I was informed I would be receiving a [Type of Discipline].
“I am appealing this discipline under Articles 7, 51 and the contract in general. I ask that it be removed from my record and that I be made whole in every way.”
Important:
- Replace the “[Date]” segment with the date of the meeting where you were informed you would be disciplined.
- Replace the “[Type of Discipline]” segment with the type of discipline you were told you’d be receiving. It could be anything from a warning letter up to a suspension or discharge.
- Remember to fill out your grievance in a timely fashion. Our supplemental contract, under Article 51, gives us 10 days to file an appeal grievance. Make sure you get it to your shop steward or business agent in time for him or her to file it before the time limit has passed.
