UPS Contract Ratification on Hold

Agreement garners 65% approval nationally, 55% among Local 384 members, but three supplements block ratification

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters reports a majority of UPS Teamsters have approved the tentative UPS National Master Agreement, though three area supplements have been rejected.

The margin of approval for the contract appears to be around 65% to 35% nationwide according to unofficial IBT tallies. This would normally be enough to ratify, except that the IBT consitution requires all related supplements to pass in order for the master agreement to be ratified.

Judging by the wide margin of defeat in Local 804’s New York area supplement (they rejected both the national and the local agreements by almost a 3 to 1 margin), it may be a while. Members in Central and Western PA also rejected their supplements, though by slimmer margins.

For Local 384, the unofficial tally is 458-368 in favor of the master and 464-358 in favor of the supplement (55% and 56% in favor, respectively). Both tallies show Local 384 was much more displeased with this agreement than the average local.
