Teamster President James P. Hoffa addresses a Teamster-sponsored gathering at the YearlyKos event in Chicago. (Via CtW Connect)
One thing’s clear in viewing both Hoffa’s address to the crowd and the introduction given him by YearlyKos founder Markos Moulitsas. Unions and progressive bloggers are necessary complements to each other in the movement to restore the voice of everyday Americans in what has become a broken political process.
One key part of President Hoffa’s message: We need to hold politicians’ feet to the fire and demand that they not only take our support, but they show us real loyalty when they take office.
Last night the Democratic candidates for the 2008 Presidential election debated at Soldier Field in Chicago. The event was sponsored by our brothers and sisters in the AFL-CIO.
We are union members, and the proudest part of that tradition is that we stand together. Our strength is in our unity, our solidarity. Our collective strength is there so that even the weakest and most downtrodden can be strong.
Right now, there is a member of our local union who needs our strength. (The following is from a flier advertising the upcoming 50/50 drawing to benefit Pete Schultz – please help if you can):

Last month, Pete Schultz was stricken by
something that has affected his eyesight. At this
time, the doctors have no idea what is causing
this problem, and have been unable to resolve
this issue. This situation leaves Pete with
